Unfortunately, many businesses continue to create them without any idea what the objectives of the blog truly are. Without knowing what the objectives are, most corporate blogs become a collection of posts about their latest product, their latest news, and other stuff that most people have no interest in (such as their 15% off father's day sale). There's no reason to put this information into a blog format when there are plenty of other places on a "regular" website where this information could (and should) reside. Just a thought...

Re: 10 Benefits for Businesses to Start Blogging

Great post. I will definitely be making use of your expert advice to get more of our clients to start making use of this important marketing tool. To me the biggest downfall is the resources that a company must invest. To keep a blog alive with fresh content and maintained posts takes time. Thanks for the great post

Re: 10 Benefits for Businesses to Start Blogging

Nice one! but don't know whether it will happen for malaysia companies..

Re: 10 Benefits for Businesses to Start Blogging

Hey, congratulations on surviving "the dreaded Google PR Update" ;-)

Re: 10 Benefits for Businesses to Start Blogging

hey wayne, this is really a good and informative post! i like it very much, very detailed yet very understandable as well. good reference for everyone!

Re: 10 Benefits for Businesses to Start Blogging

Great points Wayne!
I really appreciated reading them right now.

Just started a company a couple of months ago and chose to start off with a blog, two in fact, instead of a traditional brochure style website.

I've had some surprised reactions from other businesses. "Oh but your website is only a blog" type reaction

But I really like all of the feedback from readers that the blog gives me. I'm sure the blog actually gives me more market research information than a traditional website would have.

This is critical for a company just starting out. And, guess what? The market feedback has lead me to readjust my target audiences. There is a lot to say for business blogging.

The brochure website will probably come later - right now learning WordPress was my priority. One thing at a time.

Re: 10 Benefits for Businesses to Start Blogging

Great post, I'll have to use this as a resource for clients that are a bit reluctant to start a blog.

Re: 10 Benefits for Businesses to Start Blogging

Brilliant post Wayne! You've hit the top 10 points, dead on. Actually a lot of my clients don't even own a blog, because they find it to be a complete waste of time (I do both blogging and regular websites consulting). I immediately explain to them what marvelous tools blogs can be and advise them to at least give it a chance. Most e-mail me back and tell me that setting up a blog, was the best advice they got for their online business.
